Billy Bob and Thornton’s Semester Abroad
Some years I look for a person or family to take care of my two cats—two siblings, both boys, Billy Bob and Thornton—while I go west for the winter to live in my camper van. They’re friendly, affectionate, a lovely bonded pair, and I joke (half-seriously) that in my mind really they are just one entity.
Timing: Jan 1 - March 31. This isn’t a permanent adoption—just a temporary stay. Ideally from around Christmas (flexible a bit before or after) through March 31st.
Experience: Previous cat experience required.
Details: I know, I know—“guy ditches cats to go live in a van.” It sounds terrible. But seriously I adore my boys and want to make sure they spend the winter somewhere warm and happy. Maybe you want to test-drive pet ownership, or can’t commit to animals for the long-term, the main thing is that you would be psyched to have them living with you. I pay for food, supplies, toys, whatever they need.
The Boys: They have done stints in foreign homes a couple times before. Last year they came with me to Wyoming (and stayed in a house), and a few years ago they lived in the south loop for four months. They’ll spend a few days scared under a bed, but as you go about your routine they won’t be able to resist coming out to explore, and eventually hang in varying proximity to the action. They are typical cats: they sleep a lot, then they are active af, and regularly chase each other around and wrestle. They are extremely good-tempered and sweet; they are very nice to people, and wouldn’t last a day out on the mean streets of Chicago (they are indoor-only).
If you or someone/a family you know is interested in talking more and meeting them, don’t hesitate to reach out.

The Boys, when they were kittens (they are now 5). Billy Bob, on the left, has always been a little darker in the face.
They love to cuddle.
